Silverfish in Your Home

Silverfish, also known as bristletails, is a potentially harmful pest that can cause damage to your home. They shy away from humans and do their best to keep hidden, so you may not notice them until the damage is done. They like to hang out in soffits and canister lighting devices, saving their eating and roaming times for the dark of night. There are a few tell-tale signs of a silverfish infestation that when noticed should be acted upon immediately!

Signs that you have silverfish in your home:
If you notice any of these signs in your home, it's time to call Bayou Cajun for pest control. Unfortunately, silverfish can cause a lot of damage, and eradicating them sooner rather than later is always your best bet. Be on the lookout for:

  • notches or holes that look like etchings,
  • yellow coloring on or near the infested areas,
  • pellets that are dark in color and resemble large pepper pellets.

Silverfish tend to prefer humid and warm environments, so bathrooms and kitchens are where you'll likely find them. They have also been known to drop out of recessed lighting as they make their way into your home!

Even if you may not see them crawling around, silverfish will still need to be dealt with in a timely manner. This pest will often come into the home through the roof by crawling through minuscule gaps between panels or shingles. This can be a recurring problem when you have a shake roof. If you think that your home may be under a silverfish invasion, give Bayou Cajun a call right away!
