The construction needed to complete home remodeling - plus the temporary mess created as parts of the house are ripped away and reconfigured - doesn't seem like a set of living conditions that anyone would want to deal with. Yet pests love these conditions because, despite the noise and activity, that construction and those materials provide wonderful entrances into your home, along with cozy hiding places and, in some cases, food sources. If you're about to remodel your home, you need to be aware of the types of pests you might see.
1. Termites
Construction crews often have wood lying around, and if it's termite swarming season, bugs looking for a new source of food could find it in those piles. And you wouldn't know until the next hatching because one little termite chewing into wood isn't that easy to spot unless you're purposefully looking for it.
2. Roaches and Ants
Those nice openings created in your walls by the construction are heaven to a roach's senses. You can have a couple move in and set up a nest, leaving you with an infestation that seems impossible to get rid of on your own. Ants can invade, too, if the remodeling disturbs their nest underground or creates a bridge of material from the nest to inside the remodeled home.
3. Mosquitoes
Does the remodeling include water features? Make sure those features are either dry during construction or have water that is constantly recirculated. Otherwise, mosquitoes could breed in stagnant water, leading to a painful summer.
4. Spiders
The threat of a spider infestation comes from the piles of materials left lying around. Many spiders like to hide in those places because the arachnids need dark, undisturbed cubbyholes in which to create egg sacs. This creates a problem for you because those spiders could decide to move into walls that are being redone.
If you're having your home remodeled, keep an eye out for signs of infestations. Have a pest control company like Bayou Cajun Termite and Pest Control inspect the area and your finished house. With preventative and emergency treatments, you can vanquish those multi-legged invaders.
